Notes: The Dental Anesthesia Assistant Program is a certificate program approved by the Washington State Dental Commission and the Oregon Dental Board. A Dental Anesthesia Assistant works at the direction of a Dentist, Oral Surgeon, Maxillofacial Surgeon, or other provider in preoperative, operative, and postoperative anesthesia, monitoring, and interventional care.

Among other duties, Anesthesia Assistants obtain a pre-anesthetic health history, perform vascular access, establish non-invasive monitoring, assist with the preparation and administration of medications, assist in the treatment of life-threatening situations, and assist with all aspects of anesthesia techniques, as allowed by certification and as directed by a licensed provider. The Resuscitation Group students learn and apply anesthesia skills and manage life-threatening situations in simulation. The practical experience gained is not typical of all programs and is extremely valuable to the participants when real world situations occur.

This course involves significant pre-course study and extensive skills training requirements during the course. The Student must have the following texts prior to the course and have studied both: current American Heart Association ACLS Student Manual (2025 guidelines) and a current Miller’s Basics of Anesthesia 8th Edition by Manuel Pardo MD (Editor). The student will receive a pre-course study guide two weeks prior to the course start date.

The 100 hour Anesthesia Assistant Certificate Program is approved by the Washington State Dental Commission for personnel who assist a Dentist, Oral Surgeon, Maxillofacial Surgeon, Physician, or other provider with anesthesia during procedural or surgical events.

An anesthesia assistant is a non-physician qualified to assist a licensed provider with preoperative, operative, and postoperative anesthesia, monitoring, and interventional care.  The anesthesia assistant works under the direct medical direction of a licensed provider as an assistant in the care team. Having successfully completed the program of instruction and 10 vascular access initiations, the student will receive a Certificate in Anesthesia Assistant from the Resuscitation Group with approval from the Washington State Workforce Training - Vocational Education Board.
